Breen leaves The Youths
David Breen has left the Wexford Youths but will not be looking for a new club as he has retired.
Questions are been asked of why a player would retire mid-season like this and if there is something more to it but all we know for now is that the Youths will no longer be able to avail of his services.
There has been tones of transfer stories posted here today on the blog but whats going on at your club? Let us know here at Blog by becoming posting your comments.
Dundalk lose Melligan

Dundalk have been dealt a major blow ahead of their Europa League tie in Luxembourg as JJ Melligan has left the club for English League 2 side Cheltenham Town and that obviously means he has not traveled with the Dundalk squad for this crucial European tie.
The game takes place in Luxembourg tomorrow night at 6.30 pm Irish time and all of us here at the LOI Blog would like to wish Dundalk and all LOI sides going into European action in the coming weeks the best of luck and we hope they can help promote our great league.
If we get any more news regarding Dundalks Europa League tie before kick-off we will of course let you know and we will of course have the match result , my views and hopefully a official match report.

Limerick Raid The Transfer Market
We reported back on the 7th of June 2010 that Dave Rogers had left Cork City Foras Co-op through mutual consent. Well Dave hasnt taken long to find a new club as Limerick FC have signed him along with a raft of other top quality players.
Limerick have signed these four players so far but there are loads of rumors flying around of other players been brought in.
Stephen O Flynn , Dave Rogers ,Timmy Kiely and John Sullivan of hamilton have all signed while Brian O’Callaghan has also been touted as a potential signing.
Limerick are climbing the table and have done things the right way ever since they were created a couple of years back and its great to see and with signings like this going through its no wonder there on the promotion trail.

Stephen O Flynn for a former club.

Cup Replay Shock!

A huge shock in last nights FAI Ford Cup replay as struggling Bray Wanderers dumped high-flying Derry City out of the competition. And while Bray are a Premier Division side and Derry a First Division side nobody seen this coming even with Bray having home advantage at the Carlise Grounds. This result will come as a massive blow for Derry who have a great pedigree in Cup competitions and im sure they saw themselves going a long way but they must now regroup and concatenate on winning promotion back to the Premier.
As for Bray they will face high-flying UCD in the last 16 of the Cup. You can say what you like about Eddie Gormley and Bray Wanderers but they got to the quater finals last season and just getting this far this time round is a massive achievement and really shows how ridiculous it would be to show Eddie the door.
Here is the official match report:
Bray Wanderers booked their place in the last 16 of the FAI Ford Cup when two excellent second half goals by lone striker Shane O’Neill gave them a narrow victory over Derry City in last night’s tense third round replay at the Carlisle Grounds.
The Brandwell side took the lead on 29 minutes when winger Darren Cassidy fired home an angled shot from the left off the upright after a cross from James McClean on the right was flicked on by the head of striker Vincent Sweeney.
But Bray were level four minutes before the interval after a push by midfielder Thomas McBride on veteran Bray defender Colm Tresson inside the Derry box. Jake Kelly made no mistake with the resulting penalty when shooting past ‘keeper Gerard Doherty.
The Seagulls had their noses in front on 53 minutes when a long ball over the top of the Bray defence from Dane Massey saw defender Emmet Friars attempt a back header to his ‘keeper. But striker O’Neill burst through the middle and fire home from ten yards past Doherty.
After Massey had been sent off for a second bookable offence on 63 minutes, Derry pressed forward in numbers and were level on 75 minutes when 17 year old Patrick McEleney fired home a scorching free from 30 yards.
But Bray refused to lie down and O’Neill had his second of the night a minute later when shooting home left-footed from 12 yards after clever approach work by Tresson to set up a clash away to UCD in the next round.
Bray Wanderers – Kane; S.O’Connor, Tresson, Webster (D.Doyle 36), Massey; Mulroy, Brennan, Shields, Kavanagh, Kelly; O’Neill (R.O’Neill 90).
Derry City – Doherty; McCallion, S.McEleney, Scoltock, Friars (Harkin 80); McClean, Molloy, McBride (Henry 70), Cassidy; P.McEleney,Sweeney.
Referee – Neil Doyle (Dublin).
There is another Cup replay to be settled tonight when Monaghan United face the Tricky prospect of FC Carlow in Gortakkegan , Monaghan.
My Prediction for that one is a tight 2-1 win for the Mons in a game that might have to be settled in Extra- Time.

Billy Woods returns to Cork City
Cork City have announced the signing of former Rebel winger Billy Woods. Woods, who has extensive League of Ireland experience with Cork City and Shamrock Rovers, can play at left back or on the wing.
Commenting on the signing, City boss Tommy Dunne said: “I am delighted to have Billy on board. We have been short of left sided players this season, and the fact that Billy can play anywhere on the left flank gives us options on that side of the pitch. The fact that he has huge experience of the league is also a bonus, as again that is something that we have perhaps lacked a little, and I believe his experience will be a big asset to the club for the remainder of the season.”
Woods, who made his League debut for Cork City in the 1993-94 season, has been playing with his local side Midleton in the Munster Senior League in recent months, and he told CorkCityFC.net that he was pleased to have signed: “I’m delighted to have signed. I know Tommy Dunne for many years, we were team-mates at Shamrock Rovers, and Cork City is a club that means a lot to me, so I am pleased to have the opportunity to be part of the good work being done at the club. I hope that my experience in the league can be of benefit to the squad over the course of the season as we look to challenge for the promotion play-off places.”
What do you think of Cork’s signing of Billy Woods? Comments welcome below.
